Magnesium anodes serve to protect the reservoir. Its wear depends on the local characteristics of the water. According to DIN 4753, part 6, this sacrificial anode lasts for a minimum of 2 years and must be checked annually for wear and tear.

Failure to maintain the protective anode may result in early corrosion damage.
